About Us

Travel with purpose — guided by lived experience.

Back2Africa.net helps members of the African Diaspora experience Ghana beyond ordinary tourism — through heritage, culture, community, reflection and practical conversations about connection, investment, relocation and repatriation.

Kofi Asasia Asante (Anthony Witherspoon, PhD)

Founder, Back2Africa.net

Before founding Back2Africa, Anthony Witherspoon served as Mayor of Magnolia, Mississippi, and held leadership roles in civil-rights and public-service organizations. Public profiles document his service on the Executive Board of the Mississippi State Conference of the NAACP, his past presidency of the McComb/Pike County Branch of the NAACP, his leadership of the Mississippi Conference of Black Mayors, and earlier criminal-justice reform work with the ACLU of Mississippi and One Voice Public Policy Institute.

His academic background includes a PhD in Higher Education Administration from Jackson State University. In 2021, after leaving municipal office, he relocated to Africa and publicly described his work there as building business partnerships, networks, and tourism opportunities designed to help people of African descent experience the continent for themselves.

That vision is rooted in a Garvey-inspired Pan-African outlook: the belief that people of African descent should build stronger cultural, economic, and personal ties with Africa. In interviews about his move to the continent and the launch of Back to Africa Tours, Witherspoon specifically cited Marcus Mosiah Garvey as an inspiration for encouraging members of the African Diaspora to explore Africa, reconnect with the Motherland, and consider repatriation on their own terms.

Today, as Kofi Asasia Asante, he brings that same commitment to Back2Africa.net — creating Ghana experiences that are intended not simply to entertain, but to help travelers learn, reconnect, build relationships, and imagine a deeper future with Africa.

Our promise: You are doing business with a founder whose connection to Pan-African travel is personal, public, and longstanding — grounded in civic leadership, community advocacy, education, entrepreneurship, and firsthand experience living and building relationships on the African continent.
